TAKE ACTION: Tell President Trump to Finally Deliver on Trade

President Trump rode into office promising big things for America's factory workers. Sadly, he has yet to deliver — and many of America's trade problems are getting worse.

Now Trump is heading to Asia for a big diplomatic trip. It's a make-or-break moment that will prove whether Trump really will stand up to China and keep his promises to rebalance trade.

President Trump,

American workers are counting on you to deliver for them when you head to Asia to meet with heads of state in China, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines. It’s past time that the United States acts to rebalance lopsided trade deficits with many Asian countries, particularly China, and begins to reverse years of job loss and unfair trade.

I encourage you to take a proactive approach in rebalancing trade during your trip and press for meaningful commitments from our Asian partners that will eliminate predatory trade practices and barriers to U.S. exports. Specifically:

Address Overcapacity: Press China for verifiable and enforceable net reductions in global industrial overcapacity;

Unveil Section 232 Findings: Respond to national security threats caused by steel and aluminum imports and release the results of these investigations, which are crucial to safeguarding American industry;

Take on Cyber Theft: Chinese interests have stolen trade secrets and valuable intellectual property assets, and action is needed to ensure the creativity, ingenuity and entrepreneurism of American companies are protected;

Address State-Owned Companies: Do not give trade concessions to countries that use state-owned and state-directed enterprises to distort markets and limit access for U.S. exports;

Deter Currency Manipulation: Include strong, enforceable rules in trade agreements to penalize currency cheating;

Stand Up for American Autos: More work must be done to open markets in Japan and South Korea to American automakers.
